Lots of interest to smallholders
26th February 2010
Devon is a county famous for its smallholders, and that is increasingly being reflected in the Devon County Show, held at Westpoint, Exeter from May 20-22.
There is virtually everything at the Show that the serious smallholder could need – equipment, advice, some of the finest livestock in the country, friendly competition and every conceivable variety of trade stands.
Show Secretary Ollie Allen said: “But besides all of that, the Show is a lot of fun! It is a great day out for all the family, a marvellous showcase for everything that the Devon countryside has to offer and it remains, of course, an unmissable gathering for Devon farming families.”
Following the tremendous success of last year’s Show the organisers are again offering free entry to children on Saturday when they come with an adult. There is also great value for tickets bought in advance - adults cost £14.50 and the over 60s the price is £12 for two on Thursday and Friday.
There is something for everyone at the Devon County, but if the Show has a stand-out feature, it would probably be the food and drink. Nowhere in the South West is there a better selection of top quality local food and drink producers than in the massive Food and Drink Pavilion. It almost defines the word ‘cornucopia’!
These are exciting times for farmers and smallholders, in Devon and throughout the country. Never has the interest in local food and drink been stronger, nor the need and potential for productive farming been greater. All of that will be reflected in what promises to be as vibrant, exciting and successful a Devon County Show as we have seen for many years.
