Even more fun for children at the Show
10th May 2010The Devon County Show on May 20-22 at Westpoint,
FunForKidz is bursting with things to keep lively youngsters amused. From planting seeds to baking bread, milking Daisy, weaving willow wands, watching chicks hatch, watching Tractor Ted DVDs and petting Crealy’s tame animals, there’s so much to do and see.
Show Secretary Ollie Allen: “We hope our young visitors enjoy this fantastic new hands-on experience. Here little ones (and big ones) can discover more about where their food comes from, how to grow plants and make simple dishes as well as get creative. But above all it’s all about having lots of fun!”
Fermoy’s Garden Centre, Newton Abbot and Barnstaple, is laying on a whole range of fun activities designed to get youngsters interested in growing and eating their own tasty crops. They can ride a smoothie cycle, plant a pumpkin seed and get inspired to grow their own by pupils at four local schools who are building school allotments at the Show following a competition last year.
Sarah Dumont, Fermoy’s Development Manager, said: “We are really excited to be involved in this project and are looking forward to meeting families and hopefully inspiring them to get out into their gardens and grow their own vegetables.”
Ian Shears is bringing his mobile bakery to the feature and will work with youngsters to make, bake and share their own organic bread.
Crealy Great Adventure Parks is bringing some of their animals including a miniature mare and foal, pygmy goats and kids, baby rabbits, guinea pigs and ducklings. Children can make their own teddy bears with Teddy Paws and Crealy characters Dina the Dinosaur and Crealy Bear will be at the Show.
Award-winning Creation Station will provide an exciting array of arts and crafts projects to fire a child’s imagination. Visitors young, and old, can create and model a farm animal, make an animal costume and mask or even make a magical wand. There will even be the chance for them to try their hand at willow weaving or get arty ‘country-style’ by painting their wellies.
Creation Station Managing Director, Sarah Cressall said: “It’s great to bring the Creation Station back to the Devon County Show. Everyone had such a great time last year and this time we have even more inspirational ideas and materials for children and their adults to enjoy. It’s terrific fun to make and create something that you can take home. We will also be running a drawing competition throughout the show and giving away some great prizes.”
Also there are traditional attractions in abundance - magnificent livestock, wonderful food and drink, inspiring flower and garden displays, marvellous crafts, stalls offering a wealth of goods, and lots of traditional entertainment in six rings.
