NEW this year is a marquee devoted to the iconic Devon cream tea – the BIG Devonshire Cream Tea.

The scones will be made to a special recipe devised by Richard Hunt, Executive Chef of the Grand Hotel, Torquay (pictured above) – you can download the recipe if you’d like to try them at home!

They’ll be served with the thick, yellow clotted cream made by Langage Farm in South Devon. The perfect accompaniment is tea from Devonshire Teas which is grown on four Kenyan Fairtrade Estates.

And, of course, this being Devon, the cream is slathered onto the scone first followed by the jam.

There will be an unofficial attempt at the world record for the largest scone – chef Richard is getting sacks of flour ready while Langage Farm is preparing huge quantities of clotted cream.

And everyone involved will be pressing the case to secure a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status for the Devon cream tea. If the Devon cream tea wins PDO, it will join foods including Stilton, Single Gloucester, Dovedale and Swaledale cheeses.

The marquee is sponsored by Tesco, which stocks Langage Farm clotted cream and is promoting the Devon cream tea in its stores with recipe leaflets.

The BIG Devonshire Cream Tea can be found on Avenue A.
